Mineral Area Council on the Arts Announcement of 2020-2021 Season
Every year the Mineral Area Council on the Arts (MACOA) brings quality art and cultural programming to the region. The plans for the 2020-2021 are no exception! The board of directors has great hopes of being able to continue serving our community and completing the mission to “promote and strengthen the cultural environment in all segments of the area served by Mineral Area College by creating and supporting opportunities for the community to experience the arts locally and at an affordable cost.” At this time, the feasibility of offering each event will be considered as the time grows near. Health and safety recommendations from the St. Francois County Health Department and the management of each venue will be followed as directed.
Along with the plans for a stellar year of events, the organization is now open to those interested in becoming a member. From its beginning thirty years ago, MACOA has functioned as an advisory board with a host of volunteers. The Board of Directors has had the desire to foster greater community involvement. Over the course of approximately two years they have formulated a plan whereas the organization will now have a membership from which the future Board of Directors will be elected. Community members who purchase a season ticket for the very reasonable $50 will be welcomed as the first members. The members will be invited to elect the future Board of Directors from within the membership, will be asked to share thoughts on event programming, will receive monthly reports from the Executive Director, and will be invited to volunteer at events.
Scottye Adkins, Executive Director of MACOA stated, “Opening the organization to a wider community membership will hopefully serve to bring desired programming to the area and strengthen the organization into the future. The board of directors is very pleased with this opportunity to connect better with those who support MACOA and want to be more involved.”
“The 2020-2021 Season has been structured to include requests made on the comment cards and suggestions of our faithful patrons. For now, it is MACOA’s intent to execute the season in its entirety. Any changes will be handled on an event-by-event basis. While our goal will always be to support our mission to bring exceptional cultural experiences to the region, our
obligation is to allow our patrons to attend with confidence that precautions are in place to keep everyone safe.”
