Creative Writing Contest Winners
Mineral Area Council on the Arts (MACOA) sponsored its first Creative Writing Contest in 2020 with financial assistance provided by the Missouri Arts Council. The theme for the contest was “The Journey” with entries due on September 30th. All entries were judged anonymously by authors and educators in the field of English and Communications: Steve Cross, Mark Evans, Rebecca Lacy, Robert Montgomery, Rachel Neumeier, and Dr. Diana Stuart. MACOA thanks these esteemed judges for their time and dedication to judging the thirty entries for our first writing contest.
Winners are:
10th – 12th Grade Essay, Lily Boyd of Ste. Genevieve High School, student of Mr. Josh Banks
10th – 12th Grade Poetry, Faith Jarvis of Arcadia Valley High School, student of Mr. Jimmy Morey
10th – 12th Grade Short Story, Arie Taylor of Ste. Genevieve High School, student of Mr. Josh Banks
Adult Essay, Donnie Marler of Desloge
Adult Poetry, Mikayla Watkins of Park Hills
Adult Short Story, Daniel Weiss of Farmington
To bring the Creative Writing Contest to a climax, MACOA hosted a Creative Writing Workshop on Saturday, October 17th, at 3:00 p.m. at the Farmington Public Library featuring guest presenter, Karen Sargent. Following the workshop, each winning entry was read aloud for those in attendance.
In addition to the six winners listed above, one overall winner was announced on Saturday. Donnie Marler ‘s adult essay was chosen as the overall winner for the 2020 Creative Writing Contest.
